Story Conversation-Magic Quiver
Jan. 22nd, 2002 12:52 amlothinielflowermaiden: I don't know whether you're coming on tonight, but I'll be on a for a few more minutes, possibly until 12:30, so let me know if you come on and can talk.
annabella: I'm on.
lothinielflowermaiden: Oh. You're invisible, then?
I've started using the invisibility mode a little. Actually, I just switched back from it, because I wasn't sure how long I would be on tonight.
annabella: I started out invisible, then it quit letting me send. So, I disconnected and tried over.
lothinielflowermaiden: Oh.
I haven't tried sending from Invisible mode. I was only using it because I thought that my roommate might actually go to bed early tonight, but I think she's going to stay up for at least another hour. I was going to get off earlier, if she went to bed early, but she's still up, and someone's going to call her in a few minutes. And that was probably more information that I needed to give.
annabella: No, that's okay. I don't know why my Yahoo does that. It doesn't always in invisible. Just sometimes.
lothinielflowermaiden: Oh. Well, computer programs can do strange things sometimes, I guess.
Although, I don't have much to say on that subject.
annabella: Yeah, I guess. Might be the MSN, though. For some reason it screws up more than when I had AOL.
lothinielflowermaiden: Oh. I thought it could be pretty stubborn with AOL, too. Although, I don't use it with AOL much anymore.
Anyway, like I said, I can't think of anything else to say about computer programs.
annabella: lol Me neither. Not knowing anything about them.
lothinielflowermaiden: Yeah. I don't know much either. I just use them, and when I have problems I use the help feature. But anyway, unless you can suggest another topic, I think it's time to suggest stories. As usual.
annabella: Time to continue, I guess. Go right ahead!
lothinielflowermaiden: Okay. I saw Lord of the Rings again on Saturday, with my dad and stepmother. (And yes, this is going to lead into a story.)
annabella: brb
lothinielflowermaiden: Because I got an idea from something my stepmother noticed. Well, actually, my dad and I kind of came up with the idea together.
Okay.
annabella: back
lothinielflowermaiden: Okay. Did you get the last message I sent. About how I got a story idea from something my stepmother noticed during the Lord of the Rings movie.
annabella: Yeah. What was it that she noticed?
lothinielflowermaiden: She noticed that Legolas never seemed to run out of arrows during battle, despite the fact that he had use several arrows in the fight. So, we came up with the idea that maybe he has a magic quiver, that never runs about of arrows. So, now, I'm trying to see what kind of story I can develope that into.
annabella: Oh, yeah, she's right! lol
lothinielflowermaiden: Yeah, so now I've got this story idea, and I'm not sure where to go with it. I've got too possibilites. Is that he did some service for someone, and was given the quiver as a reward. The other is that it's a family heirloom, with some kind of interesting history. Yeah, I know, I'm really desparate for stories, but at least I'm not writing about the Orcs forming a mafia.
annabella: Oh, I like the family heirloom idea.
lothinielflowermaiden: Yeah. I know a little about his family background, too, because I know the names of his father and grandfather, and I know what happened to his grandfather.
Which actually leads into another story idea I have. (As you can tell, I want to talk about Legolas tonight.)
annabella: Yeah, so that should be easy for you, plus interesting.
lothinielflowermaiden: Do you want to know what I know about his family history. In order to discuss the story I have based off of it, I mean.
annabella: Yeah.
lothinielflowermaiden: Okay. This is the from the book Unfinished Tales. It's a collection of essays and stories that Tolkein didn't finish before his death. His son published the manuscripts, and I've gotten the book from the library before. Anyway one of the things in this book is a history of the Silvan Elves of Mirkwood. And there was something that history that gave me a story idea.
The Elven Kingdom of Mirkwood was started by an Elf named Oropher, who escaped from the fall of Doriath (an event covered in the Silmarillion. It's about this Elven kingdom was betrayed and destroyed. I don't remember the details.) Anyway, Oropher led his followers to Mirkwood where they merged with the Silvan Elves. And Oropher became the first king of Mirkwood.
annabella: So, that's Thranduel's father?
lothinielflowermaiden: Yeah.
Oropher died in the Last Alliance, though. Which is what gave me the story idea.
annabella: forgot how to spell his name! lol Too long ago.
lothinielflowermaiden: Thranduil.
annabella: Ah. Okay. Sounds interesting so far.
Thanks. I spelled it that way first, then thought it looked wrong.
lothinielflowermaiden: Well, the essay gave some details about Oropher's death. He died during a battle called the Battle of the Dagorlad Plains. He and several of his warriors entered the battle before the command had been given, and were slain as a result. Thranduil (of course) survived, and become King.
Anyway, I came up with an interesting idea for a sequel to Lord of the Rings that goes along with that battle. I actually got this idea when I was in sixth, though, so it might need some work.
annabella: Sounds good so far!
lothinielflowermaiden: Well, let me explain the rest. Have you ever heard the phrase "history repeats itself?"
annabella: Yep.
lothinielflowermaiden: Okay. Well, that was where this idea kind of came from. I had this idea of a new evil arising after the war of the Ring had ended, and setting up a base in Mordor. (I have not named this new evil yet.)
annabella: Oh, that sounds really good!
lothinielflowermaiden: Yeah. Well, anyway, there's going to be a battle, at the Dagorlad Plains, and guess what's going to happen in that battle. (Okay, history won't repeat exactly, but close.)
Or should I explain what happens?
annabella: Explain what happens
lothinielflowermaiden: Okay. Well, I don't know exactly yet, except I'm going to have Legolas be in some kind of danger (most likely he'll be hurt) at the same place where his grandfather was killed. Or is that not a good idea?
annabella: Oh, no, that's a neat idea.
lothinielflowermaiden: Oh. I wasn't sure, since I was only thirteen when I first came up with it. I'm just revising
it now. Possibly for fanfiction.net. I think I want my first completed fanfiction story to be a Lord of the Rings story.
annabella: I think it's a good idea. LotR is a romantic fantasy, and that's a romantic idea.
lothinielflowermaiden: Why do you call it a Romantic idea?
annabella: romantic in the broader sense of the word. Legolas injured on the spot where his grandfather died.
lothinielflowermaiden: Yeah. Okay. I guess I understand. Now, I had devoloped this pretty thoroughly the first time I made it up, so I have some ideas already about reactions and stuff, but I would still like to discuss that a little, if you have time.
Although, actually, I'd almost rather do that another night. I'm kind of tired, and my roommate's finally gone to bed.
annabella: That's fine by me. I'll be on most nights. Just maybe not Thursday night.
lothinielflowermaiden: Okay. Well, I'll be on tomorrow night, probably. I have a 10:00 class tomorrow, so I need to get some sleep, I'll talk to you another night. And I'm glad you like my story idea.
annabella: Alrighty! Night!
lothinielflowermaiden: Night.
annabella: I'm on.
